Jeffrey Kovnick, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Kovnick graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in Psychology and afterwards completed additional coursework at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. He earned his M.S. in Human Nutrition from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Immediately after, Dr. Kovnick enrolled at the Medical College of Wisconsin (formerly Marquette Medical School) and earned his MD in 1990. His residency in General Adult Psychiatry and Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry was completed at the University of Utah. To round things out, Dr. Kovnick then completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Virginia in a combined program with the School of Medicine and the School of Law. Dr. Kovnick is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry.

Prior to joining Vista in 1999, Dr. Kovnick, was an assistant Professor at the University of Utah. His primary role there was as medical director of adolescent services at the Univ. of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute and Director of the Forensic Evaluation and Consultation Service. In addition, he was medical director of an Observation and Assessment unit and of a latency-aged residential treatment center. Dr. Kovnick has consulted extensively to the State of Utah with youth in custody due to abuse, neglect, or behavior.

His treatment style, relaxed manner, and diverse career experiences allow him to connect with youth and help in the healing process.

Dr. Kovnick enjoys foreign travel, live music, his four children, and biking, skiing, and the outdoors.
